Exposure Unit Joy!
April 21st, 2010
Joy of joy my exposure unit, the result of a great deal of drawing, planning, research and cutting and screwing, is now finished and, even more wonderfully, works a fucking charm!
Commercially produced exposure units cost upwards of £3000, which is way out of budget at the moment, but the only cheaper alternative are crappy overhead halogen systems from ebay. Sotrue to form I decided to build a proper metal halide vacuum system myself, still not cheap, but no where near £3000 and it works perfectly and gives excellent exposures.

Progress, progress…

The inner studio is getting there, pretty well laid out now but need to do lots of tidying up and sorting out… The workshop is pretty well squared away too, dry lining should be finished tomorrow and the final piece of the screen printing jigsaw, the exposure unit, will be finished in a few days… just waiting on the glass and the steel vacuum frame now.

Concrete, YES!
March 29th, 2010
I bloody love concrete – it’s amazing, such a simple mixture of elements and it can create ludicrously large structures of immense structural integrity. It looks awesome as well, I’ve already done one creative piece with it and I’m gagging to get stuck into a whole series of work using it. For now, however, I shall have to make do with mixing it to lay a new floor ably assisted by my dear Pa.

My Badman Compressor
March 27th, 2010
I got this compressor a couple of days ago on ebay for an absolute bargain, it’s a 3HP big boy but only has a 50 litre tank. However, my splendid neighbour Scott has given me a 320 litre secondary tank which I’m going to plumb it into and then I will have more compressed air than I’ll know what to do with, joy!

Getting there…
March 27th, 2010
The studio is starting to look a little more like a studio and less like an old barn… I’ve whacked in a load of new wiring in the workshop so I’ve got power sockets all round and (finally!) some decent strip lighting, painted the floor and started dry lining the walls…

I’m going to pull out the wood panels at the top of the walls here and fit some windows so I’ve got a decent stretch of natural light coming in too.
Angle Grinder Massive
March 17th, 2010
Being an old cow barn the space still has cow stalls in it. I spent the whole day clearing out mounds of crap left behind by previous tenants to get back to a bare floor and then cut off all the stalls down the side, so that I can later floor out this side of the space to make room for cars etc :D

Manly as fuck eh?
